While these features may be enough to impress you, here are five new innovative SUV safety features to help keep you safe:
1. Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
For the drivers that are never sure if they are too close or far from the car behind them, this is where the adaptive cruise control (or ACC) comes into play. This feature uses sensors in the car to make sure that the driver is a safe distance from the car in front and behind them. This is an amazing safety feature because it decreases the number of accidents and rear-ending, which leads to more lives saved and fewer injuries.
2. Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
One of the most important and basic safety features in a car is the brakes. In newer cars and SUVs, there is an upgrade to brakes called autonomous emergency braking (or AEB). These types of brakes work in two different ways to make sure that the driver is safe. First, if the car senses an imminent collision, the brakes will automatically stop the car to prevent it. Secondly, if the car senses that you are going too fast, it will reduce or increase the braking speed to make sure you are on track.
3. Reverse park assist
Something that has been in a few older models of cars, but is becoming more mainstream is the reverse park assist feature. For the longest time, this feature was only available to luxury and top of the line models of SUVs. Today, almost every SUV has this feature and it has been a lifesaver to rear ends and those who struggle with reversing their cars. This also not only makes the driver safe but those around them as well.
4. Electronic stability control (ESC)
If you have a problem with over or understeering then consider electronic stability control (or ESC) your new best friend. This works by making sure that the car is steered properly with every turn, which, in turn, helps with skidding and keeping traction. It also in some SUV models helps with individual braking with each wheel to prevent accidents as well. By making sure that you have proper steering, this makes sure that no serious accidents occur that could result in serious injury.
5. Adaptive headlights
Many people are not able to turn on their high beam lights without blinding the drivers around them. With that being said, sometimes your regular lights are not able to properly give you the visibility that you need. This is where adaptive headlights come in. This light automatically adjusts to the road conditions, especially at night, to make sure that you can see. This helps with safety in an SUV because of such big vehicles needing more lights than a car. Lights help with head-on collisions as well, which is always a good thing.
